There’s something to be said for simple and to the point. Ryan Negley, Tooey’s Barkeep and Peach Street Distillers Cocktail Liaison, embraced that philosophy when approached to create cocktails for this weekend’s Art of Brilliance unGala at the Denver Art Museum (DAM). This week I sat down with Ryan to “taste test” his creations for the event, and I must say he nailed it.
First up is the Bonne Nouvelle. Inspiration for this cocktail came from the citrus flavors that only the cooler temperatures of winter can nurture. In particular, Negley gravitated towards the bright and vibrant allure of blood oranges to complement the same qualities in much of Cartier’s prestigious creations.
Next up, Mr. Negley created the Bijou de la Nuit. This jewel of the night was inspired by the simplicity and boldness found Cartier’s artistry. At the heart of this cocktail, you’ll find Dolin Blanc Vermout adds a nice, big body that’s pretty, and well…bold.
When asked what most excited him about being a part of the unGala and seeing the Cartier Brilliant exhibit, Ryan simply said, “I grew up as a poor black child. I don’t know much about high-end jewelry like Cartier. I’m just honored to be in the same room as the body of work .” Talent, humor and looks.
There are still a few tickets left if you’d like to attend the event and experience these delicious cocktails, the glamour of Cartier, and much more. (Black tie optional.) With the addition of Ryan Negley’s cocktails, it’s sure to be the unGala of the year.
