There’s a little bar on Colfax that you probably haven’t noticed. It’s not along the normal crawl routes. You’ve driven by it, or maybe even strolled right on past. It rests quietly around the corner from Diamond Cabaret, just down the street from the Denver Diner, and across Colfax from those big city buildings that house courts, cops, and other civic endeavors.
Bar Red opened in January. It has good food, aged cocktails, craft beer, and a very nice staff. It also has a basement, with couches, fireplaces, and a big red door that used to open onto Colfax. The major street has been built up over the century, and now provides a dark recess within which you can enjoy your company and your cocktail.
It’s a little off the beaten path, and because of that, Bar Red is a good place to go and enjoy a drink, some food, your company, or just yourself, and avoid the crowds of downtown or the familiar faces of the bar you might call home. The prices are decent, the food is good, and the happy hour is stellar – Monday-Friday, 4-7pm, 50% off all wine, beer, and spirits, excluding signature cocktails.
Grab a seat the next time you want a few minutes of peace, quiet, and whiskey.
