Religion and politics are two things usually thought to be off-limits in casual conversation. After our article a few weeks ago on Denver’s top bottle shops, we might suggest adding “favorite liquor store” to the list of conversation topics to avoid. Why? Well, we learned first hand that folks can be quite ardent in their support of their favorite bottle shop, perhaps even more so than politics and religion here in Colorado.
Some readers complimented our efforts to share our favorites with the masses, while others called us idiots for overlooking Denver’s hidden gems, and even more complimented us on leaving out said gems. We learned that it’s impossible to please everyone, but that won’t stop us from trying again in the future.
In the meantime, we wanted to share with your, our loyal readers, the top shops in Denver as identified by you, our loyal readers. Without further delay . . .
Toast! Wine and Spirits (3828 W 23rd Ave) – Toast is a shop that multiple readers demanded for inclusion, and who are we to deny the people? Located a few blocks off Sloan Lake, Toast boasts a selection of more than 100 beers and variety of other alcoholic beverages. While it’s not widely publicized like at other shops like Mile High Wine & Spirits, Toast will save you a bottle or two of its most prized selections like Goose Island’s Bourbon County Stout. If you ask nicely.
Grapevine (900 S Monaco Pkwy) – Grapevine is in Glendale just off Leetsdale Drive, and it serves as a great craft beer resource for those in Southeast Denver. In addition to providing a great selection, Grapevine is a perfect spot for craft beer novices to visit to hone taste buds or pick up some knowledge from the staff on different variations of a style. A great example of Grapevine’s unique offerings is its recent Christmas sets – the shop put together some great brewery-specific sets of multiple beers and glasses that would be a perfect gift for any beer fan. Keep an eye on its Facebook page for updates on recent shipments to reserve via phone.
