Last December, the River North district welcomed Our Mutual Friend Malt and Brew to the neighborhood with open arms. Way back then, they brewed on a set-up that was so small, it was adorable. Just 10 gallons! And, in order to keep the tap lines flowing and doors open, they often brewed twice a day, four days a week. Back then, it was always easy to belly up to the bar and shoot some shit with Caleb while enjoying the spinning vinyl.
What a difference a year makes! Now, OMF brews on a fancy three-barrel system, which has significantly improved the consistency of the beer from batch to batch and has enabled them to start brewing different styles. Also, the brewers probably hate their lives much less. While you can still find a spot at the bar and enjoy some Caleb-and-vinyl time, there are new faces manning the taps.
Join them in celebrating their first year in operation! These guys are doin’ it up right with a 2-day event. Friday, December 6th, they re-release the classic Winter Warmer (a personal favorite) as well as two other versions of the same beer. Saturday, December 7th, is a staff tap-take over! Each staff member got to choose a style and/or version of a normal OMF beer and its these unique creations that will be on tap. For example, one is an all-Galaxy hopped red ale and another is a cream ale. Both nights will feature live performances from the likes of the Kentucky Parlor Pickers, Two Tone Wolf Pack, and A Mouthful of Thunder. Full details over at their Facebook page.
See you there!
