What does practicing yoga and drinking beer have in common? Lots, which is why a few local breweries have started yoga clubs.
Yoga and beer have many similarities. Yoga is about finding the balance within oneself, where as when a brewer is brewing beer, they are looking for a balance in the flavors. Both can be strong, healing and create an overall experience for mind and body.
Adrienne Rinaldi is the founder of BrewAsanas, a mobile yoga class hosted at various breweries in the Denver and Boulder area. Each session is $20 and includes one-hour of yoga and a pint of beer. BrewAsanas practices Mondays at 6 p.m. at Breckenridge Brewery, Upslope Brewing, Strange, FATE and Kokopelli. Check their website for upcoming dates and locations.
Our Mutual Friend launched their beer and yoga group in January 2013. Friend and instructor, Beth Power was looking for a place to have a Monday night class and OMF had the space. The donation-based class is open to everyone regardless of yoga and beer drinking experience. The group meets Mondays nights at 6:30. All yogis gets $1 off pints after class.
Earlier this month, Wynkoop launched Hoppy Yogis, a community of yogis who love beer. Shannon Berner got the inspiration to start the group out of her own passion for yoga and beer. It was during the Wanderlust Festival in Copper that the idea came to her.
Hoppy Yogis currently meets bi-monthly at 6 p.m. at Wynkoop Brewery. Yoga starts at 6:15 and is open to all levels. After class, there is a brewery tour, limited to the first 20 people to sign up. Yogis also receive 10 percent off food afterwards. The next Hoppy Yogis is on August 19.
Yoga and beer drinking are both about relaxing and becoming a part of a community. So grab your mats and let’s drink a pint or two!
