In a state known for its plethora of microbreweries, for many libation debauchees, it comes as a surprise that there are over 100 wineries bringing viticulture to prominence across the Rocky Mountains. And on Sunday, June 2, 2013, vintners, aficionados and wine enthusiasts alike will kick off the 3rd Annual Colorado Wine Week.
In 2011, Governor John Hickenlooper declared the first week of June “Colorado Wine Week” to coincide with the first annual Colorado Urban Winefest. In its third iteration, the week-long local wine affair will culminate with the Colorado Urban Winefest on June 8, 2013. 36 wineries and more samples than one palate can handle will grace the lawn of Infinity Park in Glendale, CO.
Want a more intimate setting to taste Colorado’s award-winning wines? Taste many of the medal and best of category winners from the Governor’s Cup Wine Competition on Friday, June 7, 4:30-7:00 PM, at the Hospitality Learning Center of Metropolitan State University of Denver, 1190 Auraria Parkway at Speer Blvd.
Over the seven days of celebrating local wine, there will be many events including Colorado wine and small plate specials at top restaurants, as well as specialized events almost every night of the week. If you’d like to purchase tickets to the Colorado Urban Winefest, there are still some available. Trust me, this will be an event you won’t want to miss.
