Weekend off the Wagon – April 5-7

Weekend off the Wagon in your inbox, every Friday

Happy Opening Day! Whether you’re already downtown celebrating, or holed up in your basement for fear of purple, today is the day. Just about every bar and brewery has something going on, extended hours, and crazy specials. Our pick? The Lobby is tapping Crooked Stave’s Leopold Apple Whiskey Barrel-Aged Vieille Saison at noon today, along with a bunch of other crazy beers, and River North is opening their patio.

Saturday, Denver Beer Co hosts their second annual Crawfish Boil, and the mountains are celebrating the end of the season with a handful of beer fests and “athletic” endeavors.

Sunday, you can make amends for all the shitty things you did to your body on Friday and Saturday by taking a run – or is it a yog? – with bRUNch.

There’s more to see after the break. What’s your plan this weekend?

The Big Lebowski Quote-Along

7pm – 10pm

Alamo Draft House

“Sometimes, there’s a man, well, he’s the man for his time and place. He fits right in there. And that’s The Dude.”

There’s no one quite like him, and we’re giving you the chance to abide with The Dude (Jeff Bridges) at THE BIG LEBOWSKI Quote-Along. We’ve subtitled all of your favorite lines so you can use the preferred nomenclature, and we’ll be handing out inflatable bats so you can show Larry what happens when you f*ck a stranger up the ass.

Stand against aggression with The Dude, yell, “Over the line!” with Walter (John Goodman) and definitely do not f*ck with the Jesus (John Turturro). You can even enjoy The Dude’s favorite recreation (no, not weed) with a giant-sized bowling game on stage before the show. But don’t worry, you won’t be required to roll on Shabbos.

We hope all of you Little Lebowski Urban Achievers will come out and enjoy yourselves, so you can die with a smile on your face, without feelin’ like the good Lord gypped you.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly Spaghetti Dinner

7pm – 10pm

Alamo Draft House

The Spaghetti Western Feast is a hallowed tradition going back to the early days of the Alamo. We screen a classic Italian Western and serve up all the salad, foccaccia and spaghetti you can eat. Don’t forget the red wine!

Quentin Tarantino has called THE GOOD, THE BAD & THE UGLY the “best directed film of all time” and we wouldn’t presume to disagree with him. Sergio Leone’s mastery of the frame is apparent throughout. Naturally his cast doesn’t hurt: Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef and Eli Wallach (who steals the movie) became instant screen icons, and deservedly so. Composer Ennio Morricone’s theme song has become aural shorthand for the western itself, but the entire score is purest genius. As a film it’s the richest, most satisfying evening’s entertainment imaginable. Perfect proportions of violence, humor, intrigue and now pasta. Don’t miss out!
