Weekend off the Wagon in your inbox, every Friday

Pick a brewery, any brewery. They’re most likely throwing their version of Oktoberfest, a birthday party, or some other level of awesome.

MCA Denver has a cool series called Black Sheep that started up again recently. The Green Spaces Festival sounds promising for a good time for both you and the world you walk in.

Tickets are still available for the Wagon/Avery Pucker Up Poker Run on October 12th. Check it out.

A Taste of Iceland in Denver 2012

Experience the vibrant culture of Iceland without even leaving Denver! A Taste of Iceland in Denver is a free four-day event that will celebrate Iceland’s food, music, and film from September 27-30. Denver will get a taste of what life is like in Iceland as residents enjoy the best of the country’s culture and lifestyle through a series of events. Can’t attend? Follow our Tumblr for updates!

Enjoy authentic Icelandic food at Coohills Restaurant, where Icelandic Chef Hákon Már Örvarsson, Bocuse d’Or recipient and World Culinary Cup winner, will collaborate with Chef Tom Coohill to offer Denver-area diners a special four-course Icelandic menu showcasing the best of Nordic cuisine.

The Icelandic menu also features the delicious 66°North signature cocktail. Named for Iceland’s latitude, Coohills mixologist Jayme Henderson created this drink by combining Reyka Vodka, muddled blueberries, blue Curacao, rosemary simple syrup, freshly squeezed lemon juice, and rhubarb bitters, served up. Boulder Craft Beer Symposium

1:30pm – 7pm

Craft Beer Seminar: 1.30 p.m – 3.00 p.m $25 per person
A seminar with Brewers from Crooked Stave, Avery Brewing Company and Crystal Springs discussing the current and future status of Craft Beer in Colorado.

Beer Garden Tasting: 4.00 p.m – 7.00 p.m $25 per person
A rare opportunity to walk around tasting beer and enjoying pizza from Pizzeria Basta.

Boulder Wine Merchant is hosting the Boulder Craft Beer Symposium at Avery Brewing Company to promote some of the amazing craft beer talent we have here in Boulder County. Our beer buyer, Matt Mitton and myself, have summoned the help of our favorite local brewers to participate in a discussion/seminar followed by an exclusive beer garden tasting of new and exciting beers from each brewery that will be accompanied by the delicious food of Pizzeria Basta.

The seminar will be limited to 40 people at $25 per person, with representatives from Crooked Stave, Avery, and Crystal Springs hosting the discussion. We are looking to broach the topic of the current and future status of craft beer here in Colorado. By questioning these talented brewers, we are looking to learn more about the new trends in brewing (including barrel-aging), strong beers, wild fermentation, and the sourcing of more local ingredients. We will discuss competition vs. collaboration and how it affects the industry here in Colorado. Finally, we will taste a number of micro-brewed beers that represent the best from each brewery.

Following the seminar we are opening the party up to a total of 100 guests to enjoy a walk around tasting with catered pizza from Pizzeria Basta. Upslope and Elevation Brewing will be joining us for this tasting. The cost for this event will be $25 per person. This will be the perfect opportunity to meet the brewers and taste their latest creations. It should be a fantastic afternoon of beer education and enjoyment. We hope this will be an annual event and look forward to your participation.

Tickets are extremely limited and all proceeds will go to the Growe Foundation to help educate our kids on the importance of local and organic farming. Growe helps a large number of young kids learn how to garden by planting and tending to school gardens here in Boulder. Tickets can be purchased directly from the link below. The cost for both events is only $45.

We hope to see you there!
