The Search for the Perfect Iced Coffee Cocktail

I love coffee and I love booze. During the winter months, there is a plethora of booze infused coffee beverages. However, during the summer months, the iced version of these beverages seem to disappear from drink menus. With that in mind, I decided to hit the brunch scene to find the perfect iced coffee cocktail. In order of my visits:

1. Racine’s Mochaholic

Racine’s actually has an iced coffee cocktail on the menu! The Mochaholic has Godiva chocolate liqueur, Kahlua, espresso, half & half and is served the rocks.  You can really taste the Godiva chocolate liqueur, and it balances out the bitterness of the espresso. This cocktail offered the perfect kick to weekend brunch, however I don’t think I could drink more than one.

2. Jelly

Jelly doesn’t have an iced coffee cocktail on the menu. I spoke with the bartender and we decided to mix up Tia Maria, Bailey’s, and espresso. Their liquor selection is slightly limited. This cocktail ended up tasting just like a drink your local barista would brew up.

3. Steuben’s Coffee Cooler

This cocktail totally hit the spot. I’m not really a huge rum fan, but the spiced rum in the Coffee Cooler was ideal. This drink is not on the menu, you have to ask your bartender or server for it. The Coffee Cooler contains spiced rum, vanilla vodka, coffee and chocolate milk. If you are looking to switch up your brunch or earlier afternoon cocktail routine, I recommend this drink. I had a very nice buzz after enjoying just one.

4. Snooze’s Iced Manhattan

This cocktail was by far my favorite iced coffee cocktail. The Iced Manhattan includes cherry whiskey, Irish cream, espresso, and milk, and is served over ice and garnished with a cherry. I was a little hesitant about the cherry whiskey, but the combination of all of these ingredients was exactly what I was looking for when I first set out on my mission to find an iced coffee cocktail.  Snooze does brunch well and the Iced Manhattan is just another example of why you always have to wait over an hour for a table. This cocktail is not listed on their beverage menu, so you will have to ask for it by name.

5. Kahlua Iced Coffee Cocktails

Kahlua released their line of pre-mixed Iced Coffee Cocktails in June. I have been searching every liquor store in downtown Denver for these babies and I can’t seem to find them yet. I can see myself enjoying these poolside, in the park, really any time. The Kahlua Iced Coffee cocktails come in a convenient to-go can and are available in three flavors: Iced Espresso, Iced Macho and Iced Coffee with Cinnamon Spice. If you find these, please tell me where.

I think it is safe to say that if your brunching establishment has an espresso machine, you will be able to find an iced coffee cocktail. Change up your brunch boozing every now and then give an iced coffee cocktail a try.
