Weekend off the Wagon – June 8-10
Weekend off the Wagon in your inbox, every Friday
Stay in Denver or head to the hills. That is the start of your decision making process this weekend. The mountains hold a restaurant week in Crested Butte, an absurd physical challenge in Beaver Creek, and a chili and beer festival in Snowmass.
Go a little north, and there’s more outdoorsy fun in Lyons, a canned beer festival at Oskar Blues, and a food truck party in Boulder.
Or stick around D-town for the Botanic Gardens’ Grapes and Hops party, a wine crawl along the light rail, a beer and bluegrass festival on Old South Pearl, and TRVE Brewing’s limited growler release party. What are you going to do?
Me? I’m going to Vegas.

People who live in or visit this valley can work up an appetite through playing in one of the world’s most beautiful places. Located at an astonishing 8,885 feet above sea level in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, the mountain village of Crested Butte is a small town that offers big satisfaction. There are big views, big events, and now a way to celebrate big appetites.
Welcome to the third annual Crested Butte Restaurant Week. Taking place June 8-15, some participating restaurants will offer multi-course dinners for $88.85 for a party of four, or just $22.21 per person. Others will vary on the pricing. Restaurants may offer several choices, and some may include wine or other beverages in the fixed price. Restaurants will also have their usual a la carte menus available at regular prices. Many local establishments that do not serve dinner will provide multi-course lunch promotions for $8.85. Old South Pearl (1200 S. Pearl), Denver
What happens when you mix a warm summer afternoon, ice-cold draft beer, and some fun, funky music? You get the South Pearl Street Music Festivals. Inaugurated in 2007, the brainchild of a South Pearl Street merchant, the first Blues & Brews debuted on August 11th on the 1200 block of South Pearl Street.
The street was closed and featured a stage at the northern end of the block and farmers market vendors, craft beer brewers, and some local blues bands rocked into the night. Hoping to attract 1,000 people and not to lose too much money, the event was a huge success with more than 5,000 people on the street and–like any great party–a last minute beer run! The first year’s success encouraged the merchants to add a second event, dubbed BrewGrass.
Entering its sixth year, the music festivals have become a neighborhood tradition and a real shindig. The question remains–is it a music festival with really good beer or a beer festival with really good music?
