Weekend off the Wagon – February 24-26
Weekend off the Wagon in your inbox, every Friday
It’s our birthday. There happen to be a few dozen other events this weekend, but let’s be honest, just come party with us.
Track 1:
Friday: Wagon Ryed Bar Crawl. Venture with us through downtown Denver as we deliver beer off the back of a horse-drawn wagon.
Saturday: Wagon Birthday Bacchanalia at Star Bar. It’s like a rare beer session of GABF mixed with smoked cocktails. And punch. There will be punch!
Sunday: If you’re able kick it Sunday funday style after what we did to you at Star Bar last night, we might have an opening for you…
Track 2:
Friday: Head up north, enjoy some music at Oskar Blues and brew releases at Yak & Yeti and Arvada Beer Company
Saturday: Liquid Brunch in the morning, LUPEC Prom in the evening.
Sunday: Not much going on this Sunday. Explore a new-to-you brunch joint and let us know what you find.
See below for a detailed list for weekend events. Check out our full calendar to plan your events well into the future.

Left Hand Ambidextrous Ale Tapping
11am – 2pm
FreshCraft
At 11 am on Saturday we’ll be tapping “Step 1″ in Left Hand’s new 12 step program, Ambidextrous Ale – a beguiling beer that balances dessert with coffee in a single glass, but you might want to double fist! This is a blend of Milk Stout and Widdershins barleywine aged in an oak barrel.
More on the beer:
ABV– 9.2%
IBU’s–Unknown
Compiled tasting notes:
This dual threat beer pours deep mahogany capped by a creamy white head. The beer is equal parts dessert and coffee with aromas of dates, vanilla and figs countered by licorice, roast malt and mild espresso. The taste follows suit with plum pudding, chocolate covered fig newtons and chocolate cream cheese frosting which gets swept away by whiskey spiked coffee and licorice. The body is medium full with a slight warming finish.

2pm – 5pm
Wynkoop
On February 25 at 2 PM at Wynkoop Brewing these finalists will be grilled by a panel of previous Beerdrinker of the Year winners and national beer experts. The judges (in traditional jurist wigs and robes) will challenge the finalists with difficult beer questions, and then choose the 2012 Beerdrinker of the Year.
The winner wins free beer for life at the Wynkoop Brewing Company, $250 worth of beer at their local brewpub or beer bar, and clothing proclaiming them the 2012 Beerdrinker of the Year.
They have their name engraved on Wynkoop’s Beerdrinker of the Year trophy, and earn the mighty acclaim that comes from being recognized as America’s greatest beer lover.
While in Denver (at Wynkoop’s expense) they will stay at Denver’s famed Brown Palace Hotel.
Phil Farrell of Cumming, GA is the reigning Beerdrinker of the Year and will be a judge at this year’s Finals. Wynkoop is now serving Beerdrinker Imperial Stout, a whiskey-barrel-aged, extra-strength stout Farrell brewed last fall with Wynkoop head brewer Andy Brown.

LUPEC Prom Redux
8pm – 12am
Bender’s
Lot of kids can’t afford the formal wear necessary to make a big splash at prom. The Prom Dress Exchange Corp offers hope in the form of ballgowns and cumberbunds. With only a student ID, these kids can pick up gently used fancy pants and start to focus the important things…like who to take! We at LUPEC think this is a great cause and throw our own annual Prom to help raise donations (clothing or cash).
So, please raid your closets for unneeded formal wear and bring it down to Bender’s for an evening of dancing, cocktail specials, and fun as we help The Prom Dress Exchange Corp make prom happen.
We’re picking a Prom King and Queen, selling beautiful corsages, setting up a photo booth, and stockpiling red lipstick for the kissing booth…you won’t want to miss our 4th annual Prom Redux!
Sunday, February 26
Nothing. Sleep it off. Go for a run. Eat some bacon. Read a book.
