Local Homebrew Competitions Offer Chance to Brew Professionally (for a Day)

If you’re a serious homebrewer, you’re going to want to check out these two competitions. Both Copper Kettle Brewing Co. and Lone Tree Brewing Co. are offering the chance for a homebrewer to brew on their professional system with the brewery’s respective Head Brewer (Jeremy or Jason). Here are the details:

Lone Tree Brewing Company Homebrew Competition:

It is with great pleasure that Lone Tree Brewing Company presents its Homebrew Competition. Amateur homebrewers should enter their best Saison (16C) or Beir-de-gard (16D) to be judged by a panel of professional brewers.  The winning beer will be brewed by LTB with the assistance of the winning homebrewer and served at LTB’s tasting room during American Craft Beer Week (May 14-20, 2012).

All entries will be judged using the 208 BJCP style guidelines. Please refer to Beer Judge Certification Program website to check the latest style descriptions, numbers, entry recipe form, and labeling requirements.  Entries will be judged on trueness to style, creativity, and overall taste.  Deadline for entries is March 31, 2012. Entries can be submitted at the LTB Tasting Room, 8200 Park Meadows Drive, Lone Tree, CO.

Copper Kettle Brewing Company Homebrew Competition:

  • Each homebrewer may submit up to 4 beers into the competition.
  • Entry forms can be found at authorized drop-off locations and on our website.
  • Three (3) 12 oz. or larger bottles of each entry must be submitted for judging.
  • All entries must be turned in to an authorized location by March 5th, 2012.

  • Judging will be performed by Copper Kettle Brewing Company staff and volunteer judges.
  • Judges will evaluate beer based upon the sub category listed for each beer.
  • The seven highest rated beers overall will be considered for the best-of-show award in a second round of judging.
  • The winner of the best-of-show award will be contacted by the head brewer and will coordinate scaling of the recipe to our 3BBL brewing system.

  • The best of show winner as well as the two runners-up will each receive a Copper Kettle Brewing Company T-shirt, growler, and two pint glasses.
  • The best of show winner will win the opportunity to brew with our head brewer.
  • The best of show winner will have the recipe showcased on a homebrew tap for six months.

Best of luck homebrewers!
