No. 9: How to Get Santa’s ‘Stache

This year, spirits have been keeping me warmer than beer and I have mixed a few of my favorite ingredients to create a special holiday cocktail.  I’ve always loved anything with gin or whiskey, but I’ve recently started to explore cocktails with eggs.  I find that most things with vodka are better replaced with gin, and most anything at all is better with an egg.

Here’s a cocktail with some foamy goodness that Santa save for later in his mustache.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Santa’s ‘Stache:


  • Ice cubes
  • 1.5 oz gin (use something extra piney, it’s Christmas)
  • .5 oz Bourbon (Old Grandad or Bulleit are nice in this one)
  • 1 oz half and half
  • .5 oz honey/apple vinegar simple syrup
  • 1 whole egg
  • pinch of ground nutmeg
  • dropper of Fernet Branca

Shake gin, half and half, simple syrup, egg and nutmeg vigorously.  To make sure that egg is all foamy, get your “bartender face” on and really shake it up!  Strain the contents into a martini glass.  Use your dropper of Fernet to add fun shapes onto the foam.  You could also add more nutmeg on top if you’re so inclined.  Either garnish or don’t garnish with a lemon peel.  I know some of you are thinking about leaving the egg out. Don’t.
