Repeal Day – Denver Edition

Happy Repeal Day!

Seventy-eight years ago today, Utah became the 36th state to ratify the 21st amendment, repealing Prohibition. Its is your duty as an American and as a drinker to celebrate with some hooch. Get on it.

The Brewers Association has some great ideas, videos, facts, and other words to get you through your Monday before you have your first drink. Check it out on

Here’s a few things to do in Denver today. We’ll update this list as the day goes on. It’s friggin’ cold out, so I definitely advise something hot (15% stout?) at home, at the very least.

$5 flights of draft beer – any 4 beers on tap for $5
$5 shots of Fernet Branca

City O’ City

Happy hour is especially happy today. Go check out the “new” renovations (it’s been since August – you should really have gone by now) and samples some tasty brews. Did you know they have a whiskey flight? Pappy van Winkle 13yr Family Reserve, just saying.

Strange Brewing

They’re brewing something up, and we’ll update this today with their plans.

Your local brewery

Celebrate with a pint at Great Divide, Denver Beer Co, Breckenridge, Wynkoop, Strange Brewing, Renegade, Copper Kettle, Caution, Bull & Bush, Arvada Beer Co, Dry Dock, or anywhere else pouring locally made beer.

A speakeasy

Stop by Green Russel or Williams & Graham for that nostalgic prohibition feeling and some amazing cocktails.

It’s not a Repeal Day event, per se, but Steuben’s has a toy drive tonight. Back to the Future style. Details.

And some fun words and history from Jonathan Shikes of the Westword:

About PJ Hoberman

PJ likes beer. A lot. And whiskey. Gin. Wine. Cocktails. Um.. what were we talking about?
