Weekend off the Wagon in your inbox, every Friday

Drinking always gets a little funky around this time.  Zombies, vampires, and werewolves start coming out. You can’t tell if it was the crazy barleywine/shot of whiskey or if that’s actually a zombie sitting right next to you. Oh, the week before All Hallow’s Eve.  Here’s a few ideas for your weekend:

Track 1:

Friday: Scream Scram at Wash Park and then the 80s Ski Party at Mile High Station.

Saturday: Start with the Caffeine Crawl OR do the Denver Beer Run then off to the Zombie Crawl! Although, I’m scared of the high probability of a zombie bite.

Sunday: Chili Cook-offs: either at Avery Brewing Company or Joy Wine and Spirits

Track 2:

Friday: Farmhouse Walloon Release Party at Trinity!

Saturday: Wynkoop’s Beers of the Year then off to Dry Dock’s 6th Anniversary Party.  Afterward, try to swing down to Colorado Springs for Focus on the Beer’s Meet the Brewer.

Sunday: Sunday Morning Beer Brunch with Renegade Brewing

See below for a detailed list for weekend events. Check out our full calendar to plan your events well into the future.

Farmhouse Walloon Release Party
Trinity Brewing

Friday 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM

Farmhouse Walloon is inspired by the ancient and more authentic Saisons of southern Belgium. We gather the ingredients for this recipe from our own small ecoregion, and strictly only use ingredients from local farms and gardens. Each year we use a number of unique pumpkins and squashes along with a number of secret ingredients to create the creamy and very drinkable indigenous interpretation of this Belgian style. Voted in the top 15 Saisons in the world in 2009!! 5.0% ABV.

The Marriage of Figaro at Mackay Auditorium, Boulder
Mackay Auditorium, Boulder

Friday 7:30 PM to 11:30 PM

Mozart’s charming classic about sex, love, intrigue, and marriage has delighted audiences since its scandalous premiere in 1786. Based on a play by Pierre Beaumarchais, this four-act opera buffa is a continuation of the story that began in The Barber of Seville. Figaro is now on the eve of his marriage, but the Count wants the favors of his beautiful wife-to-be, Susanna. Will the servants succeed in tricking their master into falling in love all over again with the Countess, and win the chance to wed? Complex plotting, a sophisticated and intricate score, and timeless questions about marriage and fidelity make Figaro a cornerstone of the modern operatic repertoire. Sung in Italian with English supertitles.

80s Ski Party at Mile High Station
Mile High Station

Friday 8:00 PM to 2:00 AM

The Raddest Party You’ll Ever Go To

Featuring great music from the 80’s by That Eighties Band and a DJ Set by Dennis Roseth. You could say that the 80’s Ski Party is ‘totally tubular,’ but then I suppose you would be dating yourself. For the 8th Annual we were thinking ‘sick bird’ or ‘wicked killer’ might describe the event a bit more appropriately. On October 21st, all those who dare to relive the greatest decade of ski wear will unite to celebrate skiing primarily, the 80’s course and especially the life of our friend Adam Barron. Mark your calendars and get ready for the only event that truly prepares you for the upcoming 2011-2012 ski season. With the purchase of a ticket, patrons will receive BEER until it runs out and drink specials from the bar.

Dry Dock 6th Anniversary Party
Dry Dock Brewing

Saturday 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM

Come down and celebrate 6 years of great beer and great times with us! It seems like just yesterday Kevin opened up Dry Dock in a small space next to The Brew Hut. We’ll have a Braggot aged in Rum barrels and the Naked Porter aged in whiskey barrels on tap, so make sure not to miss it!

Wynkoop’s Beers of the Year
Wynkoop Brewing Company

Saturday 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM

There’s one thing for sure: Wynkoop knows how to throw a party. I mean, our Governor used to work there. So it’s no wonder that they have some big headliners, reserve listers, and some hush-hush advanced sips of The Chancellor (single malt, single hop, barrel-aged strong ale that they’ve been aging in whiskey barrels since it was brewed in January). Sounds like a grand time.

Denver Beer Run
Highland Tap & Tavern

Saturday 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM

On Saturday, October 22nd there is going to be a 10 mile group beer run making stops at 6 breweries (strange, breck, renegade, great divide, wynkoop & denver beer co). We’re leaving from Highland Tap and Burger in the Highlands at 12:30pm. Its a casual run where we all run together and talk about beer and running the whole time. There is a group of us that’s done it a few times over the summer. By the end we usually sample around 80 beers.

This is the first time that any of Crooked Stave’s finished beers will be available in Colorado Springs, so come celebrate! We’ve mentioned Chad numerous times on this blog and have been really excited about his beer so it is only fitting that he be involved in our first Meet the Brewer event. All of Crooked Stave’s beers are aged or soured, often using various strains of Brettanomyces. Chad will have available a number of different beers for purchase at Another Pint/A Second Cup, he’ll give a little talk about his beers and the unique things he’s doing at his brewery, and he’ll be available to chat with you if you want to ask him any questions or make small talk.
