Oskar Blues Chef Jason Rogers wins “Top Chef Northern Colorado” & “People’s Choice Award”

Chef Jason Rogers of Oskar Blues Restaurants was awarded the “Top Chef Northern Colorado” and “People’s Choice” awards at the 2011 Top Chef Northern Colorado Benefit Event.

Top Chef Northern Colorado, a friendly competition between the area’s top chefs, includes celebrity judges, live music and a silent auction all in the name of raising money for “A Kid’s Place”. www.akidsplace.org  “A Kids Place” is a collaborative organization that works to provide services for children who have been abused and neglected, utilizing two nationally acclaimed programs, The Child Advocacy Center and the CASA Program (Court Appointed Special Advocate).

Last year’s benefit raised over $11,000 for abused and neglected childern in Weld County with a 2011 goal set for $12,500.  The well-attended event nearly doubled their goal by collecting $23,000. “It was an amazing event and the support of the community literally took my breath away,” commented Top Chef Northern Colorado event coordinator Robin Suzanne. “The restaurants & chefs were so generous with their time and donations. We could not have done this event without them.”

Rogers’ award at Top Chef comes on the heels of Oskar Blues’ (Lyons & Longmont, CO) winning the Best Longmont/Lyons Restaurant Award from the 2011 Daily Camera’s Boulder County Gold Awards. http://bouldercountygold.com/2011/best-longmontlyons-restaurant-oskar-blues-brewery-2/   Boulder County Gold People’s Choice Awards are determined by asking locals to write in about their favorite businesses. The choices are tallied up and the top-voted businesses win. All restaurants in Lyons and Longmont are eligible for the award.

Rogers’ culinary career began in Chicago. Over the years he’s worked at a handful of culinary strongholds such as Vail Cascade Resort, the St. Regis Hotel & Spa in Aspen, and the St. Julian Hotel & Spa in Boulder. He opened Olives with famed chef, Todd English, and replicated this restaurant in Boston, New York City, and Washington, D.C. In addition, he helped open the award-winning restaurants, Specchio Ombra and Risi Bisi in Atlantic City.

After moving to Colorado, Jason visited Oskar Blues Grill & Brew in Lyons, which brought out his blues roots and Chicago-upbringing. Rogers jumped at the opportunity to join the Oskar Blues family, and designed the menu for their BBQ-inspired, craft-beer bar, Home Made Liquids & Solids. He wanted to “create a menu that’s on par with the level of craft beer, which has challenged the public perception of what to expect out of a canned beer,” says Rogers.

Oskar Blues Home Made Liquids & Solids, located in Longmont, opened in 2009. Celebrating the craft-beer culture, HMLS boasts 43 craft taps, Southern-inspired BBQ, soul-saving live music, and absolutely no bottled beers. Set in the heart of Colorado’s craft beer county, and the foodie Front Range, Home Made Liquids & Solids takes both its beer and food seriously. “Liquids & Solids is like the Big Muddy flowing through the Rocky Mountains,” says Oskar Blues’ founder and owner, Dale Katechis.  Since opening, Oskar Blues Home Made Liquids & Solids has won “Best Wings” and “Best Beer List” by Westword and Editor’s Choice award in 5280 Magazine’s “Top of the Town” edition last year.
