So, you want to be a Certified Cicerone®? Those that have gone through the ringer will tell you of the tasting portion of the test. It involves styles, off-flavors, etc., and in order to receive this prestigious beer certification, you gotta know it all.
On the Tuesday of GABF week (September 27th), Rackhouse Pub is hosting a GABF Beer Judge School from 7-9pm to help put that nose/tongue to the test.
Add this to the list, Denver, on our “we’re spoiled” list. We know that GABF week is soon and we know it’s jam-packed of beer goodness. And here’s just one more awesome treat.
Gwen Conley will be hosting this event and teaching you all about palate development, flavor recognition, and style guidelines. In the past, the Beer Judge school goes like this: flights of beer are handed out, and within those flights, two of the three beers will exhibit characteristically “off-flavors.” You will be able to test yourself on how well you pick out these off flavors and will hopefully get one step closer to developing the ol’ beer-tasting palate.
You may say that Gwen Conley is qualified to be running the event. She’s been a 7-time GABF and World Beer Cup judge and a judge at the North American Beer Awards. She is currently the Quality Assurance/ Brewing Operations director for Port Brewing/Lost Abbey; maybe you’ve heard of them. She earned the status of Sensory Goddess as the Director at Flying Dog Brewery when they won the Mid-Size Brewery of the Year award in 2009 and has been the Flavor Panel Leader at the Ball Corporation for nine years! Yeah, she knows her beer.
Don’t miss out on learning from one of the top professionals in the industry. This is a great way to get ready for GABF and to make sure you are getting the most out of what you are tasting there.
Tickets will go fast! Be sure you grab them now.
