The Liquid Diet

This Week in The Liquid Diet: This week I find myself knee-deep in cocktails and miraculously drink my way out of it!

It begins with an evening filled with a first glimpse of the million dollar view atop Linger on their rooftop patio and a cocktail at Justin’s OG spot Root Down with the one and only… [to be revealed later].  Then off to a head-spinning night of different drinks and nibbles every time I turn around at a sneak-peak of my new neighbors and friends at Le Grand Bistro.  It’s a tough job, but someone has to do it!

By someone, I mean me.

Why, yes, that is an ice luge of the Le Grand's Eiffel Tower spitting out my delicious cocktail...

Yum yum yum.

Now fully gorged on “small bites” (which is deceiving because when you eat seven or eight small bites you’re as stuffed as if you ate half a frickin’ cow), I head to Cucci’s other LoHi eatery, Root Down, for a cocktail from the one and only…Mike Henderson!

Mike knows me so well, so I had barely adjusted my seat as I sit and he asks, “How about a beer cocktail?”  Hey, I like beer! I didn’t even really give him an answer and he was off to concoct.

Weird Heroes

Can't you imagine your bartender in one of these get-ups?

All my friends at the top of their game in the bartending under belly-here in Denver have such a distinct style and I really want to take each of their personas and turn them into comic book heroes.  If I did, I think they’d look something like this:

  • Mike Henderson (The Sniper)
  • Sean Kenyon (The Warlock)
  • Brian Melton (The Poet)
  • Kevin Burke (The Surgeon)
  • Ryan Conklin (The Philosopher)
  • Joshua Smith (The Mad Scientist)
  • James Lee (The Ninja)
  • Ryan and Randal Layman (Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid or maybe Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man)

Anyways, back to my fine beer cocktail.  Trying to quench my thirst and battle the ridiculously Miam-esque temps we’ve been enduring in Denver, Mike creates a Ginger Shandy for me.  A neo-take on the classic with Canton, Aperol and Ommegang Hennepin.

Just what the doctor ordered... A Ginger Shandy beer cocktail

Quite a week in the life of The Liquid Diet. What will this week hold in store? Stay tuned!
