Great Divide 17th Anniversary Party

On Saturday, Great Divide Brewing Company celebrated their 17th anniversary in epic form.  The event featured live music from 4 bands, food from Denver-area food trucks (including Basic Kneads, Stick It To Me, Quiero Arepas, and Denver Cupcake Truck), and most importantly, an endless supply of Great Divide beers on tap.

Thousands of people showed up to the party, which spanned a city block with the doors to the tap house open as well.  Getting a self-guided tour of the brewery meant you never had to be far from a tap, as Great Divide laid out a multitude of keg stations where a short wait in line would yield you another pint of delicious beer.  All of Great Divide’s regular brews could be found, as well as a new addition to the infamous Yeti family – Belgian Style Yeti, Rumble – an oak aged IPA, and the star of the party – 17th Anniversary Wood Aged Double IPA.  There were also several ‘special release’ beers offered (although I didn’t get to try any because they were out by the time I got there).  Here’s a quick list of the beers I heard rumors of but didn’t get to try first hand (these have not been confirmed by GD):

[ordered_list style=”decimal”]

  1. Chocolate Cherry Yeti
  2. Bretty Yeti (sour ale)
  3. Vanilla Bean Yeti (with star anise)
  4. Honey Wheat Lager
  5. Oaked and Smoked Lager
  6. Belgian Blonde

If you missed out on the fun, there’s always next year.  You can also check out Great Divide’s quarterly release parties, the next of which is scheduled for Friday, July 1st.

Here are my photos from the party, enjoy:

They also had a “fortified barleywine” that I can’t remember the name of…
We got there at 3 and getting our first couple beers was kindof a pain… but after people started getting a little more, shall we say, satiated, it became easier to get beer. Pretty sure I missed out on most of the special beers, though. 🙁 Oh well, better luck next year I suppose!

Mmm… I wish I could have tried that barleywine.

Had a great time, but some of the lines were insane! It was a nice touch to have some “roving” kegs making the rounds for those waiting for the special brews. I loved the Chocolate Cherry Yeti and the Vanilla Anise Yeti.

I had a great time at this event…minus a small upchucking event by another attendee. Fortunately I’m fairly spry, even on crutches, when properly motivated. My trick to avoiding lines was to have a broken leg and get everyone else to bring me delicious delicious beer. Great music, amazing staff, yummy beer. Props to Great Divide for putting on an awesome event!

I didn’t ever actually see someone upchuck, but I did watch someone throw up in his mouth… some people just can’t hold their own.
