Stout Month Comes to a Close

Vertical tastings of Czar.  Mephistopheles and Santa’s Lil Helper consistently on tap.  Our community’s chance to try contest-winning homebrew.  Great conversation.  Amazing beer.

February (Stout Month) 2011 marked the 17th Annual Stout Month.  Every year, we’re sad to see it depart into the spring season.

Picture from

Come March, we will miss the bustling winter winds that hustle us into the Mountain Sun Pub conglomerate.  We will miss warming our bellies with an overwhelming selection of delicious stouts all in one place.   Well, one company, three locations to be exact.  Boulder locations: Southern Sun, Mountain Sun; Denver location: Vine Street Pub.

Typical of Mountain Sun and its collective entities, stout month is fully equipped with daily-changing faucets for their beers.  Half of the menu details the beers brought to you by the house brewery.  The other half includes guest stouts. (For full listings of stouts, please see below.)  The winning stout for the fifth annual Stout Month was Shark Bite Foreign Extra Stout CU students Cory Peticolas and Alex Gearheart.  Mountain Sun also brings the returning winners from contests from previous years.  Mountain Sun describes their returning champions, “[Beers] back by popular demand are Adam Boggs’s Coconut Cream Stout and Girl Scout Stout.  Also making an appearance will be Scott Overdorff’s Stoked Oak Stout.”

A pint of deliciousness

Yours truly sampled/consumed Stoked Oak Stout, Girl Scout Stout, Trickster Stout, Nihilist Imperial Stout, Norwegian Wheat Stout, Moylan’s Dragoon’s, Port Brewing Santa’s Little Helper, The Yeti series (enter Chewbacca call), Avery Czar, Avery Mephistopheles, and Smugglers Stout.  What was in your pint glass?

Be sure to try a bit of both sides of the menu.

… and thus begins the Stout Month 2012 Countdown.  Mark your calendars, folks.
